Raising girls and young women of courage and character, agents of positive change
Free Being Me
Imagine a world where no-one is worried about the way they look!

Free Being Me is a global badge programme using fun and interactive activities to grow girls’ self-esteem and body confidence. It encourages girls to celebrate their individuality, empowering them to challenge the myth of the “perfect-looking woman” created by society.
The programme has been created by theWorld Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and the Dove Self-Esteem Project, to reach 3.5 million girls across the world.
Rwanda Girl Guides are proud to be a part of an international partnership with our friends across the globe to support girls and young women to be all that they can be!
Right now, Rwanda Girl Guides across the country are working out the best way to deliver this exciting program throughout the country. We have established teams in nearly every district who will lead the delivery of this program.
Two curricula were designed for 7-10 year-old kids and for 11-14 years old. After the programme, the participants gain a badge that enables them to share the lessons learnt and keep fighting against the Image of Myth.
Since it was launched in 2013 Free Being Me programme has reached over 2,000 boys and girls. the target is to scale it up across the country and create a body revolution with 10,000 participants.
Rwanda has been privileged to host the first ever Free Being Me training event in Africa from 02 to 06 May 2015.
33 Girl Guides from African speaking countries traveled to Kigali to learn how to run Free Being Me training and sessions, and working on strategies to bring the programme to as many girls as possible.
