Youth Empowerment for Global Opportunity
Youth Empowerment for Global Opportunity (YEGO) Centre is a partnership between the Ministry of Youth, Kicukiro District and Association des Guides du Rwanda (AGR) since 2010 to date.

Project Objectives: The aim of the centre is to mobilize, build capacity and advocate for youth initiatives that lead to economic and social development as well as to a productive and patriotic Rwandan youth generation.

Target population(s): youth between 16 – 35 years old
​
Key Interventions:

Employment: the centre offer youth vocational training opportunities and mobilize them to take advantages of other existing opportunities.

Entrepreneurship: the centre helps youth cooperatives create their own micro-enterprises tailored to the demands of their communities and the changing world market.

IT skills: the centre provides computer trainings to make young people from senior six (A2 level) able to use some computer programs and do some researches on the internet.

Health and sports: The centre has an information desk on HIV/ AIDS, family planning and life skills and offers programs like Voluntary Counseling Test daily. The centre provides education on the Rwandan culture to the youth through different arts and sporting activities such as songs, drama, and develops different discipline of sport such as Basketball, Football, Handball, Karate, Volleyball, etc.

Civic education and volunteerism: the centre provides lessons on volunteerism, civic education and patriotism to help the youth to grow up as responsible and productive citizens.

Talent development: the centre facilitates the talented young people to develop their creative ideas, grow and nurture them so they can put them on the market with quality and reliability. Most of talents are music and arts.

Major achievements/impact to date:

Throughout the year 2017-2018 AGR YEGO Centre has received a total number of 56,548 youth who benefited from a variety of services provided by the Centre.

The same year, 3,417 were provided with health services on HIV, VCT, family planning and counselling.

The centre has conducted many mobilization events that encourage youth to adopt healthy lifestyles. Campaigns include voluntary male circumcision, harmful use of alcohol and drugs, VCT, Hepatitis B and C, etc.

Every six months, through Umuhoza programme, 30 youth are trained on sewing, serigraphy, tailoring and heat pressing. After their graduation, they are able to start their own income generating activities.

The centre has supported cooperatives to gain market for their commodities across Kigali and abroad

Starting from 2015, the centre has organized IT literacy program for youth for three months. These young people are thereafter capable to write their CVs, hunt for jobs online and other opportunities

Since 2017, the centre encourage youth to develop the culture of reading and writing. Hence, more than 50 youth borrow books from the centre library per week.

The centre is also a community facility and provides a safe space for girls who would like to talk about issues that affect their lives and meet counsellors for intimate conversations. Nearly 100 girls seek for counselling and guidance on a weekly basis.
